FoodDrinkEurope 2015 Congress @EXPO Milano

FoodDrinkEurope Congress is approaching! From 29 June to 3 July 2015, the European Food and Drink Week at EXPO Milano will serve as the background for FoodDrinkEurope’s next Congress to be held at the EU Pavilion of the Universal Exhibition. EXPO 2015 will focus on “Feeding the planet, Energy for life” and will run from May through to October in Milan, Italy. New Commission

Following an eventful round of parliamentary hearings which saw one nominee being rejected by MEPs (Slovenia’s Alenka Bratusek), the new European Commission took office as scheduled, on 1 November. The ‘Juncker Commission’, led by former Luxembourger Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, will differ from its predecessor the Barroso Commission in a number of important respects. Read more

FoodDrinkEurope and agri-food chain partners present vision at European Parliament

On 23 September, the Agri-Food Chain Coalition, of which FoodDrinkEurope is a member, presented its ‘Food for Thought’ vision to MEPs at a well-attended reception in the European Parliament. The Vision, which was first presented to EU agriculture ministers earlier in the year, outlines a clear set of policy recommendations to meet the challenges and unleash the full potential of the agri-food sector. Setting the ground for a renewed High Level Forum

The High Level Forum for a Better Functioning Food Supply Chain met for the last time under its current mandate in October. It has been a very active period for the members of the High Level Fourm, whose representatives (Sherpas) also met in September to discuss the achievements of the Forum and set the objectives for the expected renewal of its mandate. Russian agri-food imports sanctions: FoodDrinkEurope is vocal about the challenges of the industry

In early August, Russia announced sanctions vis-à-vis agri-food products from the EU, the US, Australia, Canada, and Norway, with immediate effect and for a duration of 12 months. From the moment the Russian food import ban entered into force, FoodDrinkEurope has leveraged several key media opportunities to share the industry’s views on this challenge for the EU food and drink industry. Food tax Commission study: Do taxes impact industry’s competitiveness?

In July, the European Commission released the results of a study it had commissioned on food taxes and their impact on the competitiveness of the agri-food sector. The completion of this study by the Commission is one of the key achievements of the High Level Forum (HLF) for a Better Functioning Food Supply Chain. Read more

Future of the WTO talks remain uncertain

FoodDrinkEurope delegation attends WTO Public Forum 2014.
When attending the WTO Public Forum 2014, an annual conference bringing together stakeholders, civil servants and academics, FoodDrinkEurope was able to engage with key contacts in Geneva and discuss the main priorities of Europe’s food and drink industry, in particular in the post-Bali context. An Appetite for the future: Youth apprenticeships in the food and drink industry

On 16 October, FoodDrinkEurope together with its trade union partner, EFFAT (European Federation of Food, Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions), announced the launch of a new Europe-wide food and drink industry pledge on high-quality apprenticeships. Read more
