Every Meal Matters: FoodDrinkEurope puts food donation on the table

FoodDrinkEurope has taken a new step in the fight against food waste, together with FEBA (European Federation of Food Banks) and EuroCommerce, by launching in June a new guide to encourage and make it easier for food manufacturers and retailers to donate their food surpluses to food banks. ‘Ingredients for a Circular Economy’ for the food and drink industry

FoodDrinkEurope marked World Environment Day this year (5 June) with the launch of an online resource titled ‘Ingredients for a Circular Economy’. FoodDrinkEurope has produced this online resource presenting all the actions developed by its members to enhance a resource-efficient, circular economy in the food and drink industry. Read more

ETP ‘Food for Life’ launches new website

The new website for the European Technology Platform (ETP) ‘Food for Life’ was recently launched. 

The website redesign followed the ‘rejuvenation’ process that took place in 2015, steered by the FoodDrinkEurope Board. As a result, the ETP now has a new image, vision and structure, led by a Leadership Team composed of 15 well-established scientists of the European food arena. Read more 

FoodDrinkEurope is vocal about the need for a strong Single Market, following Brexit and the French decision on mandatory origin labelling

General News

FoodDrinkEurope and its members expressed their disappointment with the outcome of the Brexit vote. This is a blow that will have repercussions across all Member States of the EU. FoodDrinkEurope made a clear call to European authorities and national governments to take the necessary steps to reinforce the Union.

Only a few weeks later, the Single Market took one more blow, when the European Commission announced that it will allow the French authorities to introduce a 2-year trial period for the mandatory labelling of origin for milk and meat ingredients in foods. Read more

FoodDrinkEurope welcomes the Slovak Presidency

In July, Slovakia took the helm of the Presidency of the Council for the first time since joining the EU in 2004. We want to thank the Dutch Presidency for their hard work and positive collaboration and welcome Slovakia. Read more

We recently launched a new page dedicated to podcasts on our website. Besides the original podcast with our President Gilles Morel, we also sat down recently with Patrick Alix, Secretary General of the European Federation of Food Banks (FEBA), to discuss the role that food banks across Europe play in providing 3 million meals per day to people in need and their cooperation with the European food and drink sector. A view from the European Parliament

General News

While Brexit continues to dominate the political landscape, agri-food issues remain high on the European Parliament’s agenda. We have seen progress on a number of key files in recent months, in particular in the areas of the circular economy and food waste, food contact materials, country of origin labelling, and the Emissions Trading System as well as a provisional agreement on the long-awaited revision of the EU rules on official food and feed controls. FoodDrinkEurope launched a facebook page in June, to further promote several important issues and initiatives of the industry, and thus contribute to its reputation mission for the sector. The page already features rich media content, such as engaging visuals and gifs, while we also launched the Live facebook broadcasting during our ‘Every Meal Matters’ event on June 29.
