Europe’s food and drink industry remains the largest manufacturing industry in the EU in terms of turnover, value added and employment.
Based on the latest figures, the sector employs 4.2 million people throughout all Member States, mostly in rural areas, 63% of whom are employed by SMEs.
The industry also generates a turnover of over €1.2 trillion and is a continuously growing net exporter of food and drink products, with a positive trade balance of almost €28 billion.
